Excerpts are the operators of the Divines in the Twilight Mirage. They fulfill the role known in other cultures as Candidates or Elects.

While Divines are sentient beings, they are still paired with humans when performing their tasks. The influence that the Excerpt has over the functioning of the Divine (and vice versa) varies from Divine to Divine. Compared to Candidates and Elects of Divines, Excerpts have a greater role in determining which actions the pilot/Divine pair should take and how resources should be allocated.
