Kent Brighton is a young scion of the Rogue Wave's Lineage Brighton. First met by Gig Kephart upon his arrival at New Independence during "godspeed, glory Pt. 2", Kent is well-mannered and diplomatic, with a passion for adventure. He and Gig share a very special relationship, though with one-sided romantic feelings on Kent's part[1]. He was a fan of Gig's broadcasts before they met.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Kent has tan skin and light brown hair. In his first appearance, he pairs an admiral's jacket with jeans.[2]
During The Siege of the Lineage Brighton he wears matching green zettai armor, with a tricorn hat over it and a combat piccolo hanging from his neck. To complete the look, he fights with a sword.
Personality[edit | edit source]
He is a fun rich guy, who sounds kind of British with "a very sing-song-y cadence"[3]. He loves polo.
Kent is very proud of the Lineage Brighton and their legacy, and he's always willing to fight for and defend it.
Despite saying that he has "no tongue for poetry"[3], he also says in his personal journal that when he was a boy his passion was "poetry, of course".[4] This might be influenced by his favorite aunt Mathilde, who he says was a poet[5].
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Kent first appears shortly before The Miracle of the Mirage, when Gig lands on the south of Quire to inspect the KIA body of Independence, and discovers the city of New Independence in its entrails. Kent introduces himself and the Lineage Brighton, and Gig records promotional spots for them.
Right after the Miracle, Kent led his lineage in exploration of the newly-formed planet Brighton, which resulted in skirmishes with their foes in the Rogue Wave and led to Brighton becoming the most powerful lineage and the de facto leaders of the Wave.
Kent still worked with Gig on the "Brighton brand", to improve the Lineage's reputation with the other factions of the Rogue Wave. They open the Brighton Lineage’s New Independence’s first ever ice skating rink. Kent uses the zamboni on it.
The next time Kent and the Notion work together is during the Herringbone Flotilla's Siege of the Lineage Brighton. He works with Gig, Even and Echo to get a big concrete cube into the Wandering Sea, presumably in more of a leadership role considering his zettai armor.
Kent participates in The Feast of Patina, invited by Vanya De La Vega. He brings some sort of seafood, and announces the ceasefire with the Herringbone Flotilla, as well as the recognition of Seneschal's Brace. At the end, he and Gig part ways, and Kent begs him to stay safe.[6]

He meets up with Fourteen Fifteen to begin his plan of "recovering" the body of Gumption, and proposes himself as his Excerpt for the look and the prestige.[7] The plan goes through, citing Kent being a professional pirate as a contributing factor, albeit with Declan's Corrective as its excerpt[8]. The last we see of Kent is when he flies into Castlerose's ship, and gets magnetized.[9]
