The Strand is a mechanism using colored lights made of smaller spores that delimits and directs the Hypha in future travel. It essentially directs where the Hypha should go next as nomads. The Strand is launched into space and illustrates complicated patterns in the sky in order to direct the fleet. The individual who delivers it into the sky is known as a Thread-Runner. The Strand eventually becomes the Ashen Strand after its properties are weakened by the interference of the Divine Principality.

At some later point, the Strand is appropriated in the development of Strand Semaphore.
