Snitch Nightly is a thoroughly unpleasant criminal operating in Marielda.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Snitch is an annoying rascal with no sense of subtlety. He sticks around in situations where he is not wanted through a combination of obliviousness and obstinance.
History[edit | edit source]
The Quiet Year[edit | edit source]
During autumn of the Quiet Year, he confessed to the murders of Winsley Cartwright and Bolster Valentine, disrupting the trial of Christopher, who had already confessed to Cartwright's murder. The subsequent reinvestigation, while somewhat inconclusive, did not connect Snitch to either death. Austin has said that Snitch's decision to take the fall for murders he had not committed was a coverup for an even worse crime that he was actually responsible for[2].
Later endeavors[edit | edit source]
"That's why they call me Snitch Nightly, you work with me every night whether you know it or not!"
–Snitch Nightly, "Four Conversations"
Snitch came to run a criminal enterprise known as Nightly News that had occasional dealings with The Six, who enlisted him to bring a cart to help in their getaway during the Crosstown Job without knowing that the track would reconfigure itself into the skies above the city. He was a friend of Hitchcock, sort of, although Ethan claimed that they hadn't worked together in fourteen years. He may or may not know about the twins thing.
Spring in Hieron[edit | edit source]
During Spring in Hieron 27: A Place and A Time, Lem King uses dream essence to induce a lucid dream in which he is transported into the body of a burglar in Marielda, later revealed to be Snitch Nightly. Concurrent to the events of the Quiet Year, Snitch learns that Maelgwyn, at the direction of Samot, is planning a bloodless coup against Samothes. Snitch sells this information to Samothes in exchange for Samothes' divine dispensation to carry on his criminal enterprises without consequence, an arrangement Snitch terms "the Veil." Samothes grants Snitch the Veil, but first imprisons him under a false confession for the Quiet Year murders of Winsley Cartwright and Bolster Valentine.
After his release, Snitch grows in power for several years under the protection of the Veil, until it disappears upon Samothes' death. Some time after the events of Marielda, Charter Castille visits Snitch with Maelgwyn's gauntlet, demanding that Snitch put it on. The dream then sees Snitch Nightly, wearing the gauntlet, in the Divine Forge at the lowest level of existence, where Maelgwyn-as-Samothes transforms him into the Solarch. As the Solarch, he continued to lead the Cult of the Dark Son for many years, introducing subtler and more conniving methods of seizing control and hastening the arrival of the Heat and the Dark.
