“
Enjoy your time here, and if you stay for another night and you have any questions, you'll be able to find me: I'll be wherever it's brightest.”
Apparatus Aperitif is a member of the Mysteries Metronomica and the night mayor of Logos City. Their job is to ensure that any activity that occurs at night -- partying, sex work, shopping, etc. -- goes smoothly.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Apparatus is specifically modeled after a person in a video whose entire body is covered in highly reflective mirror shards, including over their suit, and whose face looks like a stylized mirrored skull, shown here. That is basically exactly what they look like.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Apparatus is described in their initial introduction as urbane, savvy, and unpredictable.[1] They prove to be very sociable and friendly (key to their role as a night mayor). They don't seek out any other official office in Millennium Break, but they do hold house parties on Fort Icebreaker where they give sermons and lectures on the Mysteries Metronomica faith and politics.[2]
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Kal'mera Broun and Thisbe meet Aperitif when they visit Logos City to speak with the Church of the Resin Heart. They offer them coupons.
Apparatus is brought on board Icebreaker Prime (by invitation from Gur Sevraq) for the formation of Millennium Break, continuing to perform many of the activities of a night mayor, but also becoming involved in their initial struggles with leadership and direction. Apparatus often finds themself frustrated by the many people getting caught up in politicking rather than policy- and decision-making. When Millennium Break chooses to elect a single leader, Apparatus helps to set up a leadership council that better represents the members of Millennium Break.
Outside of leadership roles, Apparatus is a voice of action and concerned with addressing material issues, organizing the raiding groups to hit military bases for rations and supplies against ongoing food shortages, and assisting with the plan to kidnap Cynosure Whitestar-Kesh at the Summer Passage of Arms.

When Mourningbride attempts to capture and kill Gur Sevraq, Apparatus is able to weave Perennial’s magic to save their life. Perennial grants them the ability to rewind time in very short increments.
Apparatus is later mentioned to be working with Gucci Garantine to bring the Isles of Logos as a whole aboard with Millennium Break's mission.[3]

Apparatus joins the Reflecting Pool alongside some other members of the Mysteries Metronomica. By the creation of the Crown of Glass, they are part of the city council. They advocate against some of Plum Tort's more capitalistic policies, while personally focusing on the creation of recreation areas and preservation of "vistas". After becoming wracked with guilt about entering their flop era and getting distracted from their revolutionary principles, they set up a Strand Semaphore satellite for the city which connects it with other groups rebelling against the Principality.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Gur Sevraq[edit | edit source]
Apparatus and Gur are both followers of Perennial and members of the Mysteries Metronomica. The two are close, and have known each other most of their lives,[4] with Gur seeing Apparatus as an older sibling figure.[5]
