The Six is a group of five ragtag, daring scoundrels who secretly collect and distribute knowledge in Marielda.
Territory[edit | edit source]
The Six’s lair sits next to the Hanging Gardens of Maelgwyn in Chrysanthemum Parish, hidden beneath Ethan Hitchcock's (secret) dueling school, which is, in turn, hidden beneath Edmund Hitchcock's (publicly-known) dancing school. A large rug covers the floor of the main room. Boxes full of hard-earned and treasured information are covered in fabrics and used as tables. Bookshelves line the walls, stuffed with books, while an extensive system of filing cabinets and smaller boxes store papers and scraps of papers. The center of the room is dominated by a large table, often covered in books and papers and any tools used on their last job. To the Six, it’s cozy and familiar; to an outsider, it would appear chaotic.
Outside of their main lair, the Six also maintain a secret library. People may come and sit in a booth, rather like a confessional, and be given knowledge. At the bottom of the library is a pipe organ.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
They have an alliance with the Red Rank Irregulars, a group of mercenaries led by Claret Holiday. The Yellow House, the underground university established during the Quiet Year, has a fierce rivalry with the Six. Marielda's book police, the Fontmen, also caught wind of the Six’s exploits and at one point went to war with them.
Members[edit | edit source]
- Castille (Ali Acampora)
- Aubrey Zosim (Sylvia Clare)
- Sige Coleburn (Andrew Lee Swan)
- Edmund Hitchcock (Jack de Quidt)
- Ethan Hitchcock (Jack de Quidt)
Associates[edit | edit source]
Cohorts[edit | edit source]
- Zaktrak - A cobbin train engineer recruited during The Crosstown Job.
- Peg - A weaver train engineer recruited during The Crosstown Job. Protective of Zaktrak.
- Miss Salary - A former member of the Yellow House, recruited after her compatriots were all killed during the Valentine Affair. Not always available due to obligations of her religious belief that she has to play in the dark, which she's carried forward. There are nights where she vanishes.
- Caroline Fair-Play - A student of the Hitchcocks' at both schools. A better duelist than dancer. Partners with Salary as a pair of bandits.
Others[edit | edit source]
- Frank and Beans - The Six's golden retrievers.
- Ailen Cartwright - The Six's broker contact, a person who knows the right people and a 'fixer' in the non-killing sense of the word. Daughter of Winsley Cartwright.
- Gentle Johnny - A weaver friend and contact of Aubrey's who helps her smuggle medicine.
- Snitch Nightly - An unscrupulous human 'friend' of Hitchcock's. Heads a crew called the Nightly News.
- Lilith R'ion - A half-elf, half-orc hustler and contact of Sige's who helps him obtain magic artifacts to use for his boat.
- Daisy Velour - A shop owner who sells the goods Castille smiths.
- Maelgwyn - A cult figure.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The Six's name originated as a jokey placeholder referencing Toronto, the city in which Sylvi lives and which Drake famously refers to as "the Six" (or "the 6ix"). Austin did not intend for it to become the actual name of the group.[1]
