Ten years ago, Dahlia, the Glorious Princept (born to Kesh, then kidnapped by Nideo, then rescued and raised into adulthood by Apostolos), declared themself leader of both Stel Kesh and Apostolos alongside a stunning revelation of the Principality’s crimes against Apostolos. Kesh called these claims an Apostolosian ploy for power, and elected a minor noble, Cynosure Whitstar-Kesh as their champion, the Peaceful Princept.
Five years ago, on the world of Partizan, open skirmishing between Apostolos and Kesh developed into a galaxy-wide civil war. On one side, the Curtain of Divinity, an ancient intelligence organization aligned with Stels Kesh and Nideo. On the other, Stels Columnar and Apostolos were put under the control of the Pact of Necessary Venture. Stel Orion itself fell into countless smaller internally and internecine conflicts. And between them all, Millennium Break formed—one hope for real change and resistance.
Three years ago, outgunned and outclassed by their rivals, the Curtain rebranded as the Bilateral Intercession and began to search for a way to turn the tide in their war. At just the right time, they found it: Palisade. Their ancient staging ground, and perhaps, a way back into the Twilight Mirage, a system that moves out of time, and which holds power beyond compare…
Now, the Bilats have taken Palisade and have begun searching for their way to exploit both the planet and its proximity to the Mirage. But resistance groups across Palisade have been joined by Millennium Break and others committed to stopping the Principality in all its forms. And they begin to act today,

We are introduced to PALISADE in media res. The crew of the Blue Channel are on a mission from Gucci Garantine at the bottom of the Diadem. Their goal is to find something called a Fundament node.
The crew of the Blue Channel includes:
- The Figure in Bismuth, who is piloting their mech, the Devil's Two Front Teeth.
- Coriolis 'Cori' Sunset, a small, young, excitable Devotee who has recently joined the crew. She is piloting the Chariot Mk. 2.
- Phrygian, currently in mech form.
- Thisbe, piloting Mow.
- Kalvin Brnine, formerly known to listeners as Kal'mera Broun, the captain of the Blue Channel.
- Brnine is accompanied by three other crew members: Midnite Matinee, Routine Rennari, and Hunting 'Hunt' Tomorrow.
As the crew passes through an ancient battlefield, Coriolis sees a person moving from the body of a fallen mech. The person runs away from the crew when she realizes she has been spotted, heading towards an area where worn-out writing on a wall points to the Fundament node. Cori and Figure follow the person into a hangar bay, losing track of her when she gets on a funicular to the Fundament node. Meanwhile, Thisbe and Hunt investigate the fallen mech, and Hunt determines that the mystery person must be Twill.
Brnine calls Gucci to report in about both the funicular and the Twill woman. Gucci gives the crew two objectives: first, run a program on the Fundament node that will redirect train lines carrying Bilateral Intercession shipments, and second, offer the Twill transport on the Blue Channel.
Rather than wait for the funicular's return, Brnine, Phrygian, Thisbe, Cori, and Figure follow it down the shaft. As they descend they sense the presence of magic, and when the hangar doors open at the bottom of the shaft, they see a green valley on the other side of a canyon with hills and a small village. On the other side, four Bilateral mechs are rapidly approaching the village as they battle a bladed wyvern, putting the villagers in immediate danger. However, when the crew looks away from the tableau, they can see the access door for the Fundament node.
Cori charges in to put her mech between the combatants and the village. The wyvern, a pawn of Cleave, scrambles Cori's communications. Phrygian joins Cori in battle and takes out one of the mechs in a single shot.
