Knighton Reach is a Pact defector and a target of the Curtain assassin Lament.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
They are a Columnar synthetic. Their body is purple with gold and white detailing, and their face is a sheet of glass behind which wiring, internal boards, cables, and RGB lights are visible. The lights turn off when they're particularly alarmed. Normally this face is obscured behind metal, but the metal was torn away in combat and Knighton has not yet replaced it.
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Knighton defected from Stel Columnar's 42nd Stellar Unit. They attempted to flee after their ship was boarded by Kesh or Nideo forces, but their escape pod was also captured by the enemy combatants and they were taken prisoner. Two weeks later, they found an opportunity to escape: they stole a ship that brought them to the Brink.[note 1]
On the Brink they connect with Paris France, who gives them clothing to help them blend in but is otherwise unable to provide for them. Paris, suspecting that Knighton is a spy, alerts Lament to Knighton's presence on the station, and he arranges for Knighton to meet him in the public baths, and introduces Lament to Knighton as someone who can help them.
Knighton nervously tells Lament that they need to get into the Twilight Mirage, which they describe as the only place they will be safe. Lament reassures them that she can help with that, but after she leaves the baths, Paris accidentally discloses that Lament is a Curtain agent. Panicked, Knighton flees to a hostel on a distant section of the Brink, but Lament finds them there and kills them.[1]
Footnotes[edit | edit source]
- ↑ This is the version of their escape that Knighton (as played by Austin) shares with Lament. It differs from the version that Jack describes earlier in the episode, wherein Knighton's ship is shot down and they manage to flee during combat and stow away on a transport that brings them to the Brink. It's unclear whether Knighton is lying or obfuscating parts of the story when they share it with Lament, or if the story has just changed by this point in the episode.
