Kantel is the pilot component of the Exemplar. They were imprisoned by the Curtain in Chasmata Quarry for the thousand years after they terraformed Partizan. There, they were subject to interrogation, including being brought into realistic but illusory stageplays in the hopes of provoking them into using their connection to the True Divine on behalf of the Curtain. The "Green Miracle" which transforms the Verglaz Taiga is a result of these experiments.

Soon after the Green Miracle, the Pact successfully takes the Chasmata Quarry and "frees" Kantel, claiming to be on their side. Their real goal, Operation Shackled Sun, is to use Kantel to bring the True Divine through the Portcullis at the center of Girandole, then drain the True Divine's power for their own ends. After Space's control over the Portcullis is temporarily erased, Kantel is overtaken by the light of the True Divine, and dies.
