Captain Thackeray, also known as Lance Sovereign Marielda, is a former cavalryman, the leader of the Golden Lance in Marielda and the rival of Edmund and Ethan Hitchcock.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Thackeray is a fastidiously-polished man with a sour demeanor and a scar on his face where his nose was cut off.

Thackeray wears white uniform slacks witha shimmering dark golden line along the seam over his old cavalry boots, which make a distinctive clanking noise when he walks. He wears a deep red, wine-colored button-up shirt underneath his Golden Lance longcoat, which is the same shimmering almost brown gold as the line on his pants, but seems to change color as it catches the light. On one of the coat's wide lapels he wears the badge of the Golden Lance.

Thackeray's gun is described as a pistol with an exceptionally long barrel, akin to the Joker's gun from Tim Burton's Batman.

History[edit | edit source]

Thackeray's rivalry with Hitchcock began when their cavalry battalions were posted alongside each other and greatly intensified after Hitchcock cut off his nose in a duel.

Origin[edit | edit source]

According to Jack, he is named after William Makepeace Thackeray, author of Vanity Fair.[1]
