Exler is the award-winning family gardener of Somerset House. She works on their famous hedge maze as well as on many of the gardens around the house.
On the night of Exanceaster March's dinner, Exler's goal is to steal a Columnar treasure from March's group. She uses skills she learned by secretly reading Millennium Break zines to break into his bodyguard's room to start her search. To her alarm, inside the room of Guilford Gain, Exler discovers guns, zip ties, gas masks, and a bomb set to detonate.
Exler, mechanic Martine Sprue, and maid Eileen Lilas put together a plan to disarm the bomb and keep the family safe. Once they manage to disarm the bomb, however, Exler discovers that the bomb is part of a Millennium Break operation, and that Guilford and March's other servants are undercover Millennium Break agents. She quickly changes her tune: she grabs her existing collection of stolen silverware and rare bulbs and uses a stolen escape pod to leave, with the coordinates taking her to a Millennium Break base.
She does end up in a holding cell while Millennium Break tries to figure out what to do with her, but they can tell her heart is in the right place, and she is later seen staying in touch with other members of the Somerset House staff, sending them revolutionary literature.
