“
People would be in their rights to worship me, it's true.”
Midnite Matinee is the leporine[Note 1] leader of Carrion Collections and, later, the Blue Channel's scout.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Midnite is a rabbit lady with brown skin and big white bunny ears. In terms of rabbit features, her species is somewhere between Lugaru and Viera: she has grey and white fur all over from the chin down, and her skin is only really visible on her face.
At work with Carrion Collections, she wears black coveralls with lots of patches on the arms, and a pair of sunglasses. The coveralls are black to hide grease and dirt, but she manages to make them look fashionable.[1] When she wears a spacesuit with an oxygen helmet, the helmet has built-in spaces for her ears.[2]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Midnite is opportunistic, aggressive, playful,[1] and cynical.[3] Even as the leader of Carrion Collections, she knows she's destined for more than a low-rank scavenger squad. She and her mech intend to "take what they can get, even if it means stepping on people to get it."[4] She thinks (reasonably) that she's better than everyone else.[5]
Always a cynical person, her cynicism sharpens after she lives through the Red Light.[3] She wants the Blue Channel to have a brig.[6] When she's stressed or overwhelmed, she tends to distance herself from other people and focus on work. During Brnine and Routine's absence in "Honesty and Integrity", she isolates herself and runs combat simulations over and over, preparing for whatever's next;[7] later, she skips the movie night in "Where They Are", effectively assigning herself patrol duty because she does not want to be around other people.[8]
She is really into action movies, especially the kinds of B-movies with lots of one-liners and explosions that, in our universe, could be found on VHS tapes at the grocery store.[9]
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
During PARTIZAN, Midnite leads Carrion Collections. She tries and fails to convince SBBR to give her group one of the Troop units they scavenged from a battlefield.[1]
At some point in the five years following the end of PARTIZAN, she joins Millennium Break, spurred on by the horror of having seen the Divine Law subjugating Oxbridge during "The Red Light".[3] In PALISADE, she serves as the Blue Channel's scout.[10]
Midnite takes part in both decision-making and combat on the Isle of the Broken Key when the crew of the Blue Channel attempts to root out BIS spies. She suggests giving spies.txt to Griesel Sunset and letting Violet Cove "clean themselves out", and during the subsequent conflict, she captures and arrests the spy Queue 1224.[6]
She volunteers to accompany Thisbe, Figure, and Coriolis on their mission to Chimera's Lantern.[2]
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Valence[edit | edit source]
Midnite is a connection for Valence, who finds her exhausting.
Kalvin Brnine[edit | edit source]
When Midnite chose to join the crew of the Blue Channel, she did so after weighing the knowledge that Kalvin Brnine, who she had known since they were a member of SBBR, would be in charge of making decisions for her. She ultimately decided that she was okay with that, but still points out to Brnine that deferring their own power to Gucci and the Cause leadership means that sometimes decisions get made for the Blue Channel that none of them like.[6]
Mech[edit | edit source]
She has an AdArm Pack-model light AutoHollow named Popcorn.[1] She and Popcorn have a Han-and-Chewbacca vibe.[11]
