Crysanth Kesh

From fattwiki

Crysanth Kesh is Clementine Kesh's mother. She is the third in line to the throne of Kesh and the highest ranking official -- the Gabardine of Divinity -- in the Curtain (the organization behind the throne).

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Crysanth is described as tall and angular. She bears resemblance to Clementine, having similar features to her daughter. She dresses in classic formal wear, in line with Kesh fashion sense.[1]

Personality[edit | edit source]

She is highly diplomatic and competent in political affairs, as well as a skilled spymaster. Crysanth is very transactional and she does not show sentimentality towards others without purpose. Unwilling to let her guard down, she always positions herself to appear in control. She is willing to kill to achieve her goals, directly or indirectly.

Unlike her daughter, she has no interest in taking the position of Princept.

History and Involvement[edit | edit source]

Crysanth Kesh became the Gabardine of Divinity before the events of Partizan. Sovereign Immunity acted as her advisor before he kidnapped the Princept and was subsequently imprisoned.

For the first half of the season, she assigned missions for the Rapid Evening team. She had Clementine retrieve the body of Past and later asked her to protect pilgrims traveling along the Prophet's Path. During this mission, she told Clementine to retrieve Gur Sevraq only if all else failed while secretly giving Sovereign Immunity his own objective: to retrieve Gur regardless of the circumstances. After the Rapid Evening hid Gur Sevraq for themselves and pinned the blame on Apostolos, she decided that a war on Partizan would be beneficial for Stel Kesh, and mobilized forces. To this end, she ordered the Rapid Evening to distract Icebreaker Prime while Lucia Whitestar broke through Fort Icebreaker's southern defenses. Instead, the Rapid Evening betrayed her and broke off to become part of Millennium Break.

As Millennium Break began to stabilize, Crysanth kept Fort Icebreaker bugged. She sent them an invitation for the Summer Passage courtesy of her daughter as an attempt to outmaneuver them. When Millennium Break mobilized to take Cruciat, she abandoned the city, believing that the movement would soon be bogged down by "red tape and supply lines and frustrated constituents".[2]

Subsequently, Crysanth used Clementine's funeral to introduce the puppet of Gur Sevraq to the masses. Behind the scenes, she planned the exchange of Memoria in order to rebuild the Exemplar. It was during this exchange that she was killed by Valence.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Clementine[edit | edit source]

As a parent she made her daughter "terrified" of her[3] at the same time that she instilled in her the utilitarian mindset to "never let someone you give something to feel like they’ve earned it".[4] She is dismissive of Clementine, who she sees as incompetent and akin to a failed investment.[5]

After Clementine's death, she did not mourn at all and instead turned Clementine's eulogy into propaganda in order to make her daughter finally useful in some capacity.
