Break Lieutenant Kalar Anakalar is a Talonite member of Millennium Break who appears in PARTIZAN and PALISADE. He specializes in fighting mechs without using one himself, and he opposes any use of Divines in combat.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Kalar is in his fifties, making him one of the older members of Millennium Break. At around seven feet tall, he's tall even for a Talonite, and he's beefier than Big Bird.[1] He has white and grey plumage and wears a coat that is either long or cool.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Kalar is devoted to protecting his family, and writes them letters often (sometimes including little doodles of whatever he's currently doing). He is affable and friendly with others, encouraging his teammates during battle. However, this friendliness only goes so far; he got into bar fights with members of the Company of the Spade alongside A.O. Rooke, and was frustrated with the Figure in Bismuth when they didn't understand people's reservations about working with the Witch in Glass.
Having spent part of his life in devotion to Peace, Kalar strongly believes that Divines should not be used in war.

- Get his family back to Partizan.
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Originally, Kalar was a steeplejack in Obelle, and a member of a religious community devoted to the Divine Peace. He lived in a small village near Obelle with his husband and three children, who he sent off of Partizan in order to keep them safe from the fighting.[2]
PARTIZAN[edit | edit source]
In PARTIZAN, Kalar is a soldier holding the rank of Break Lieutenant in Millennium Break. He specializes in fighting Hollows without using a mech of his own.
PALISADE[edit | edit source]
In the PALISADE era, Kalar fights as a member of Jade Kill. He leads a team of Giantkillers, including a Talonite squad, a jetpack squad, and a squad using the "wire things" from Attack on Titan.[3] In his spare time, he has taken up hand-carving wooden instruments.[4]
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Family[edit | edit source]
Kalar has a husband and three children, all of whom are currently unnamed.
Beliefs[edit | edit source]
The Figure in Bismuth[edit | edit source]
- The Figure’s loyalty is highly questionable, their abilities are not. What’s to be gained by working with a spy?[5]
Kal'mera Broun[edit | edit source]
Phrygian[edit | edit source]
Sovereign Immunity[edit | edit source]
- Sovereign Immunity and I have been a thorn in the side of the Principality for decades. We can rely on one another.[1]
- In turning to Clementine in desperation, Sovereign Immunity handed her a lot. I believe that he can take double back.[5]
Ver'million Blue[edit | edit source]
- Million is a remarkable soldier. There is a lot that I could learn from her.[2]
- Milli boarding the Reflecting Pool took courage, but I wish she hadn’t left once we needed her the most.[5]
Abilities[edit | edit source]
Kalar specializes in fighting mechs without piloting one himself, and has a skill set specialized for that purpose.
- David's Song: Kalar performs better when acting to defend his home in the Prophet's Path, and recovers stress after defeating a machine of war.
- With Me on the Wings: Kalar may spend his Spark to assist a teammate or to push himself to do a brave and eye-catching stunt.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- In the PARTIZAN postmortem, Jack mentioned that their pick to play/voice Kalar in a live-action adaptation would be Michael Shannon or Joel Edgerton.
