Zedd Z. Izzard is a scruffy and charming chef who works in the main mess hall of the Dim Liturgy's primary monastery. He is a BIS spy operating in Violet Cove.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
He's a "slimeball hot chef boy" who looks like Jeremy Allen White.[1]
He keeps an extremely thin probe in his skull just behind his ear, hidden from anyone who might capture and interrogate him, that he can pull out when necessary and use to extract information from objects. He also has a coiled, electrified whip concealed in his mouth within a false tooth.[2]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Zedd is a lovable "dirtbag chef boyfriend" with a lot of social expertise.[3] He knows everyone's favourite drink and most people's favourite meal, and is just okay as a pilot.[4]
He is not a novice spy, and he is far more skilled than Marlon Styx.[2] His skills are such that, if he'd learned them at college, he would have majored in spy, minored in cooking, and joined the mech appreciation club as an extracurricular.[5]
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Zedd's name appears in spies.txt.
At some point during the conflict at the monastery while the Blue Channel tries to capture the spies, Zedd disappears.[3] He reappears later in the fight piloting a Vambrace, and is ultimately captured by Thisbe and taken into custody aboard the Blue Channel.[5]
Once he realizes that the Blue Channel is not possessed of a brig, Zedd, whose hands are still bound, escapes the rec room in which he is being held prisoner by squeezing through a small grate into the ship's vents. He encounters an Asepsis drone on patrol but, having heard from his superiors that something strange or powerful is aboard the Blue Channel, Zedd decides not to evade it but rather take it on: he rips out the drone's processing unit. He is then able to free his hands on one of the sharp edges of the destroyed drone and pull out his probe to examine Asepsis.
The probe indicates that he could learn more information in a particular room on the ship (Brnine's quarters) and he makes his way there. In Brnine's quarters, Asepsis makes him feel, viscerally, the weight of every lie he's told in the past year. He withstands the feeling and manages to confound Asepsis' sensors and readings by feeding it false intel about the BIS; he does so by convincing himself that that false intel is true. The ship is in the process of docking, so Zedd then manages to escape, despite Asespsis' warnings to the crew, by running for the front of the ship, taking out Saffron Septet with the whip in his tooth, and fleeing.[2]
