The Champ

From fattwiki

Elena Flores,[1] also known by her hero name The Champ, is a teenage superhero in Bluff City.

For further information on Elena, see 'The Champ' by Ghostface Killa.

Appearance

Elena is Hispanic, with callused hands and a general "neighborhood hero" look (similar to Daredevil). Her civilian clothes lean more towards a baggy, Rocky-montage style sweatsuit. Her costume is "a cool special hero hoodie": the top of her outfit is a cross between a flack jacket and a hoodie with the print of a championship belt on it, and with it she wears a domino mask, tight pants with purple hashtags on them, and mid-calf metal boots. When first seen in When Justice Is Done, she is 17 years old.

When seen in Extracurricular: Out Of Time, she is 18 or 19 years old. Her style in this arc is similar to "a 1920s Avril Lavigne". She wears a flapper dress with a tie and a hat (in a style similar to the dress from “Prada 2011 sketch blue” collection).[2] When attending Gale Green's party later in the arc, she is dressed in a slim black evening gown with a long white fur coat.[3]

History and Involvement

In the past, Elena was a golden gloves boxer known in the ring as La Flor Letal. She had a reputation for having a "good chin" (i.e., she was good at being punched in the face). Her wrestling prowess gained her the attention of the Veranda family, who then kidnapped her and genetically experimented on her to make her into a better boxer. These experiments worked too well, giving Elena super strength, and she used these abilities to escape the Verandas by knocking her captors unconscious and punching through a wall.[4]

After her escape, she went through a phase of taking her anger out on people who did not necessarily deserve the full force of her wrath. She ultimately decided that she wanted something that would enable her to channel her anger into a force for good: becoming The Champ. She worked as a superhero on her own for a while, including a few team-ups with Grouse, and eventually teamed up with Grouse, Paternoster, and Mr. Good.[4]

After returning to Bluff City with Mary Merisi, the two started their own private investigator agency named Guns and Smoke.

Relationships

Paternoster

Hilda Quick, a.k.a. Paternoster, is Elena's teammate and her Love. Elena is infatuated with her. Mechanically, this means that Hilda has Influence over Elena. Elena is very protective of Hilda, sometimes to the extent of putting herself or the team in danger in order to protect Hilda.

Mr. Good

Franklin Bano, a.k.a. Mr. Good, is Elena's teammate and her Rival. Mechanically, this means that Franklin has Influence over Elena. Elena understands that Franklin is more experienced than her, but thinks that she is "better and cooler" than him and that he shouldn't be a hero. She does, however, grudgingly admit that he does a great job.

Marcus Aurelius Smith

Marcus Aurelius Smith was Elena's trainer when she was a boxer. He knows about her new superhero powers. For a time, Elena lived in the back room of the boxing gym that he owns. She still trains there, as well as at the Firebird Gym with Tawny Buck.[4]

Abilities

The genetic experiments done to her have “turned [up her boxing abilities] ... up to 15 or 16”. She uses kinetic energy to power up her punches.

When using her powers, her hands glow with orange light.
