Finnegan Hands is the owner of “The” Scuba Shop. He is good with engines, better with boats.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
At the time of his first appearance, he is 55 years old. In Messy Business, he is 62 years old and much the worse for wear: "scarred, battered, broken by one too many good ideas".
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Finnegan inherited "The" Scuba Shop from his mother, despite not being particularly good at diving. He hired Doyle MacKaye and became a mentor figure to Sonny Veranda.
In "A Bowling Alley, A Boxer, and A Bird", Sonny asks Finnegan to steal Rupert the bird from Sonny's family’s vault. After Sonny’s arrest, Finnegan is forced into one of his own submarines by Sonny’s uncle, Vinny Veranda, as retribution for stealing from the Veranda family. Unable to return to shore for fear of the Verandas, Finnegan drives the submarine until it runs out of fuel, deep underwater and far from Bluff City.
Some time later he arrives in Blough City, where Achilles Apollo helped him gain work as a charity Santa. He is miserable in Blough City, a "world where 'good faith' is worth nothing but a target on your back." During this time he lives in a tiny ranch house out near the Thicket. The house is “fine” inside, messy in the way that results from being busy elsewhere rather than negligence; evidence of cooking, takeout containers, a record player, 16 records (some of which are duplicates), a desk, and a Santa costume sit in a plastic bag on the floor. It is a “sit down anywhere” kind of place.
Finnegan dives an old dented beater car, although this car was left behind in Bluff City.
