Eclectic Opposition is a Delegate and former mole turned pirate turned investigator.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Eclectic looks like the robot designs from Binary Domain or I, Robot, but instead of having a blank white coloration, his plating color ranges from eggshell to toasted marshmellow. Keith mentions a particular teapot he owns as a visual reference. He wears formal black pants, a white shirt and tie, a black sequined poncho instead of a jacket, and a flat cap.[1] He owns a first edition Alise Breka novella that he always carries with him in an inside poncho pocket.[2]

Eclectic can very quickly disguise himself. In "Seize The Chance Pt. 1" he rapidly (as though transforming a princess transformation dress) puts on a nice curly wig, reverses his poncho to an sleek suit jacket-like "office poncho", and changes his hat into a cold weather hat with flaps.

Personality[edit | edit source]

He has a flat and eccentric demeanor, possibly because he is trying very hard to act cool, like a detective. He smokes and rolls the cigarettes himself. He's also a huge Alise Breka fan, and he carries a first edition Breka novella with him everywhere he goes.[2]

As a being made from the Divine Opposition, Eclectic has an oppositional nature inside of him that can manifest as boiling, seismic rage. It is not seen frequently, but when this rage is triggered, it can cause the ground around him to shake as if there is an earthquake.[3]

In Questlandia, Eclectic's role is Detective, his drive is Adventure and Wanderlust, his personality is Jovial and Dramatic, and his weakness is Cheat.[4]

Hooks (Armour Astir)[edit | edit source]

  • Leap says pirates steal. If something might be useful, take it.[1]
  • Leap says if a broken arm is all that stands between you and some evidence, arms are cheap.[1]
  • Leap says trust him #1, trust myself #2 and trust the Blue Channel crew #3, then trust no one.[1]

Goal (Questlandia)[edit | edit source]

History and Involvement[edit | edit source]

Eclectic used to be a PMC mole and then spent some time as a member of Leap's crew. Leap, after piecing together documents acquired during his piracy, suspected a plan involving Motion was going down on Palisade and sent Eclectic to find out more.

Eclectic's first investigation is of the Motion factories in the new Baseline cities across the planet. In Baseline-C, he runs into Riah Connadine,[5] who strategically "loses" key intel on the Paint Shop to Eclectic. This intel includes dossiers on all BIS agents, itineraries for agents leaving the planet, safe drop locations, and names of handlers—more than enough information to fell the BIS pillar. When Eclectic sees what he's doing and demands to know why, Connadine explains that he's done with the Paint Shop and leaving Palisade, which he says is about to explode.[note 1][6] Eclectic catches the attention of Resonance and while trying to flee, he crosses paths with a gig cop and fellow Alise Breka fan, Murch Saltburn.[2] He convinces Murch to smuggle him out of the city.[7]

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Exeter Leap[edit | edit source]

Having been Leap's second-in-command, Eclectic admires Leap and is inspired by many of his beliefs.[1]

Levitation Cascabel-Gardner[edit | edit source]

Eclectic is impressed by Levi's cool Pile Bunker moves,[8] but worries about the precise direction of his enthusiasm. Levi finds Eclectic a bit boring, especially after he makes Levi go through a job interview.[4]

Murchy Saltburn[edit | edit source]

Eclectic meets Murch during his investigation of Baseline-C. As soon as she sees his first edition Alise Breka novella, she trusts him.[2]

Relationship Mechanics[edit | edit source]

Gravity clocks (Armour Astir)[edit | edit source]

  • Figure is someone who can make things happen. I said we gotta bring Brnine back and they just did...[9]

Questlandia[edit | edit source]

  • Levitation: The new recruit is enthusiastic, but for what? [Exhausted]
  • Brnine: I came to Palisade with a short list of who to trust, and Brnine was on it.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

  • Lurking Conspiracy: Eclectic has a 6-step Investigation clock. When it completes, he can subtract 3 steps from any Authority schemes he is aware of.
  • Private Eye: Eclectic has an extra hold during Downtime. He can use it to give other players useful information or advance his investigation at the price of complicating things for himself.
  • Monkey See, Monkey Do: Eclectic is trained in the arts of disguise and subterfuge. He gains advantage when he attempts to hide in plain sight and subtly sabotage enemy infrastructure. When he removes his disguise or otherwise reveals his true identity, he briefly stuns the opposition and makes his next move with Confidence.[5]
  • New Perspective: When he's in Peril, Eclectic can read the room with Confidence and Advantage.[5]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

I don't like flying blind, but it's better than not flying at all.
