Zevunzolia is a theoretical concept comprised of a hypothetical heavenly utopia, the seventh sun.
The Wrights of the Seventh Sun firmly believe in Zevunzolia, and aim to bring it into existence.
Philosophical background and discussion[edit | edit source]
Who the hell knows. A miraculous city waiting to be built? A utopian dimension adjacent our own? "The Seventh Sun Itself," I think I heard one of those fools call it. All I know is, however prime and pristine it is in promise, the pricetag keeps going conveniently unmentioned...
The devils colonized the heartland, but there are some who believe they should have gone further, and conquered heaven itself. This viewpoint came from a sect of the devil faith, which generally has an emphasis on striving towards overcoming adversity and struggle, and was first posited some centuries ago. As there are six suns in the sky, the seventh sun must be one of our own creation.
There are also some who believe that Zevunzolia, as telos of telos, will inevitably come into being, and therefore they should be part of building it in order to reap the rewards.[note 1]
Further evidence that Zevunzolia has some sort of material existence: the scale model and orrery in the Hark! The Citadel Beneath arc both physically heal fallout; seeing even representations of the city is inherently calming and restorative.
Pickman (and Jack themself) believes that Zevunzolia is the stupidest idea anyone has ever had, and probably heresy. When she asked Dyre Owed whether he had any connection with its fans, he also disavowed them.
City of Lights[edit | edit source]
The City of Lights is a concept dreamed up by Regan Alaway of a wonderful city on a hill powered by electricity. The availability of electric light would revolutionize surgery and improve all kinds of industrial processes, while also conveniently making life much easier for vampires, who are almost always harmed by sunlight.
Calen interviewed him on this topic, and believes that this, Sapodilla, Concentus, and Banderole are reflections of Zevunzolia.
Alternate timelines[edit | edit source]
Appletun states that a traveler came via Zevunzolia and brought a number of strange books from alternate realities for trade, exchanging them with the Wrights of the Seventh Sun's researchers' other books. The specific example we see is some mystery novels from a universe in which Kay’Va expanded to much greater size, and its language has influenced the general vernacular tongue.
In these parallel realities, since the Panic or its alternatives, the concept of Zevunzolia has generally appeared at some point and seems to be constructing itself, or possibly groups in each of them are racing each other to be the one to construct it. As well as this, resources and bits of knowledge from these various places are often much more useful and valuable in different ones, making this exploration a fruitful one.
