Free Fidelity is a conscripted prisoner of Stel Kesh and a Delegate created from the Divine Fidelity.
History and Involvement
Free was once a member of Reunion, the pro-Delegate resistance movement led by August Righteousness.
After their arrest, they are conscripted and forced by the Divine Plight to "pay off their debt" to Kesh by through combat. In this role, they are forced to pilot a Gambeson.
As a Gambeson pilot they are deployed to the Isle of the Broken Key to destroy a major settlement at Kenneth Marian Colver's orders. They engage Phrygian in combat during the resulting conflict at the settlement. Phrygian tries repeatedly to convince him that, if Free agrees to stop fighting, Phrygian will free him from the Gambeson and give them the opportunity to escape from Kesh, but Free does not trust Phrygian's ability to promise his liberation.[1] In response to Phrygian's second and final attempt at persuasion, Free responds cynically about the nature of war: "This shit's never gonna end. It doesn't matter which side I'm on. It's never gonna end."[2]
