Ventaro Doce is a librarian and advisor of Adelaide Tristé. A tall, thin ghost; with time, his color has dulled to a grey-blue and he has grown more translucent. He is bearded, with a "pouf of hair lifting up and back from his head". He wears a circlet with a glowing red gem in the center, fancy, well-kept robes, and a Disciples of Samot pin.[1]
Doce is very loyal to Adelaide and to Nacre. He helps preside over the trial of Hella Veral as the bailiff/master of ceremonies.
If Lem had stayed in Nacre, he would have had to work for Doce. In his last appearance, Doce gifts Lem his copy of Grummond's Retroactive, which includes the appendices and the index.
