Clawed is the Divine Crusade's Knight of Books.[1]
As a member of Crusade's retinue, Clawed has a chance at becoming the next Elect of Crusade: should anything happen to Gentian, one of Clawed, Perevel, Ignadiah or Ramondre will be the next Elect.[2]
Appearance
Clawed is huge: he's muscular, 6'5" tall, and generally built like a brick shithouse. The book he carries, which is leather-bound and looks old and worn, is so big that Clawed struggles to carry it.[2] Nevertheless, he never puts it down, even when he's piloting a mech.[3] When Gentian consults the book, he kneels and becomes a book stand.[4]

Like all members of Crusade's retinue, Clawed is highly competitive. He sees Perevel, Ignadiah and Ramondre as his rivals.[2]
