Alexandra Hughes is the heiress of the Blaufelden fortune and a famous horror author.
Although she is not of the same social class as the Whitakers, she has a close association with Hollis Whitaker and often spends time with him while in Blough City.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
When seen in Extracurricular: Out Of Time, she is in her late 20s and is wearing a black dress with a white fringe and a dozen thin gold arm bangles (likely based on this photo). She has a bob with tight, gelled-down finger waves. She carries cigarettes with her.
She is described as looking like Nancy Cunard, with very pale skin and dark features (dark hair, dark lips, dark eyes). She is also described as having “very strange eyes”.
She has a mid-atlantic accent.
Personality[edit | edit source]
She thinks of herself as being a citizen of all three cities. She finds the concept of The Tunnel Project to be disturbing, as she dislikes the idea of Bluff and Blough City infecting the world of Bluffington.
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Her father was an unsuccessful newspaperman, who spent much of Alexandra's childhood attempting to separate himself from his wealthy family. Each summer, he would return to Bluffington to work on properties that his father owned, bringing Alexandra with him and locking her in his father's mansion while he worked.
Alexandra was 10 years old when she discovered old film reels with footage of Bluff City and became fascinated by it. Her experiences with her grandfather's machine gave her the same visions and dreams as he had had, and she began writing existential and cosmic horror stories under the pen name of A H Bluff based on these dreams, which are described as "what if Lovecraft was less racist". This spawned a small wave of copycat authors, writing in what became known as the "new Atlantic" style. Despite her skill as a storyteller, Alexandra is not good at talking about herself, as her personal anecdotes make is seen like she is "trying to be above it all".
With the proceeds of her book sales she began the work of buying up more territory nearby, expanding Bluffington Beach.
When she was 20 years old she set off to find a way to Bluff City (although in Bluffington the story was spread that she had died in a shipwreck to cover her disappearance). It is unknown at this time when she was in Bluff City, but it is assumed it was well before the modern era, as she has no knowledge of cellphones or email.
Some time after arriving in Bluff City, she discovered a way to Blough City and spent the next 15 years or so traveling between each of the cities (by both land and sea) as a way to see the world and escape from the "heiress locked inside of a mansion" life that waited for her back in Bluffington.
