The Winter is a preternaturally long and bitterly cold winter season which afflicts Hieron. It was initially focused in the area around the Mark of the Erasure. After the Autumn in Hieron Holiday Special, places which had not had snow in living memory, such as Velas, began to experience it. With the encroaching presence of the Heat and the Dark towards the end of Winter in Hieron, the winter only became more severe.
The unending winter continues for over ten years, leading survivors to band together in settlements such as the Last University.
