Waxwing is an active superhero in Bluff City and Grouse's mentor. She is Goldfinch's ex.

Unlike Goldfinch, the name of her civilian identity has not been given, but it is known that she is rich. She owns the Saltwater Pier, having bought it with Goldfinch after it started going under because it was where they went on their first date. She supplies Grouse and her young superhero friends with their secret base and equipment, and sometimes pays their medical bills.

Personality

Waxwing is described as a bit of a shittalker, someone who hangs back and assesses the situation before acting. This used to make her a good partner for Goldfinch, who would "swoop in and save the day" and always looked for the good in people. She has an attitude of superiority, and does not want to ever signal to others that she does not have it together.

Her favourite drink is a Ward 8 (rye whiskey with lemon juice, orange juice, and grenadine -- she does not have the optional maraschino cherry).

History and Involvement

She met Goldfinch at age 19 at an out-of-town wrestling company tryout after she had dropped out of community college (although the two would not team up for another year). They became longtime partners, both as superheroes and romantically.

At one point, she and Goldfinch worked a bank robbery which Waxwing believed involved Mr E Masque and the Coast Guard. This was the same incident that Hector Hu told Florence Slowly was perpetrated by the Coast Guard. However, because Goldfinch rejected this theory, the case was pinned on someone else.

After Goldfinch returned to Blough City, Waxwing was "heartbroken" and expressed intent to "take the mask off, put the TV on, and disappear". In the end, though, she continued to fight crime in Bluff City and mentored younger superheroes (most notably Grouse) as a “sort of coping mechanism”. She recruited Grouse and the others after they defeated the Eel King, saving Hector Hu, and destroyed a ferris wheel on the Saltwater Pier in the process.

Abilities

Waxwing is described as being similar in abilities to Batman or Starman: she can (possibly) fly, but also uses gadgets, computers, and drones.
