The Portcullis System is the dominant form of FTL space travel in the Divine Principality.

Development[edit | edit source]

The Portcullis System is a series of stone and metal rings placed near star systems of interest, which open every ten days to allow ships to pass.[1] It was created after the Principality's FTL capabilities were reduced by the Perennial Wave, and is the primary method of FTL travel in the Principality outside of Stel Apostolos[2]

Travel through the Portcullis system is uncomfortable, and requires training so that any users are not left ill for several days.[3]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

The Portcullis Gates are giant hexagonal stone gates, when open they appear to be full of some sort of red liquid, with white ripples.

///Operation Dossier\\\[edit | edit source]

The Operation Dossier contains the following entry on the Portcullis System:

Once, every 10 days, the Portcullis System activates. A hundred thousand of these massive structures, elongated, city-sized hexagons of stone and circuitry, shudder, shake, and howl all at once. And at the edge of every star system in the Divine Principality, a geyser of liquid energy, red and oppressive, explodes into darkness. Ships emerge from these crimson and white waves. Ships filled with medical supplies and mineral wealth, purveyors of faith and career politicians, censored information and refurbished war machines. The lifeblood of a vibrant, vicious empire.
