Aria Joie is a member of the Chime and a former pop idol and propagandist for EarthHome Entertainment.

Her catchphrase when launching in her mech is "Precious Bell, launching!"

Appearance

Aria is Asian. She has shining eyes, an alluring face, and a toned body.[1] She wears military and menswear-inspired cuts with feminine accessories; for example, a formal jacket with a sequined or print patterned shirt underneath.[2]

After being shot in the hand during the BluSky mission, part of one of her arms has been replaced by a prosthetic from the forearm down.[3]

Personality

Aria is alluring, energetic, and savvy.[4]

Directives:

  • When you value heroism over the mission, mark experience.
  • When your desire for fame draws unwanted attention to the mission, mark experience.[1]

Vision:

  • The people of Counterweight deserve a better home.[1]

History and Involvement

Aria was 17 when she first contracted with JoyPark, changing her name and signing away rights to her own image. She worked with them for years. After leaving her job, she became a smuggler and lounge singer before being turned by Paisley Moon onto the idea of fixer work.[2] As of her first appearance in "I Would Like A Bribe", she is about 26.[5]

Aria is part of the missions to retrieve Cene Sixheart and Orth Godlove.

During the period between "Our Hostage Below" and "A Thing You Know About Nightclubs", she takes part in three missions. Mako runs a mission against Liberty and Discovery Automaticorps, where Aria is in charge of extraction. AuDy also breaks into a Liberty and Discovery Automaticorps facility with Aria and steals information on robot intelligence. Finally, Aria and AuDy transport surveyors onto Weight for Orth and the Consolidated Counterweight Technocracy.[5]

Aria also participates in the Gnosis virus mission and the mission to steal the golden orb. While the Chime enter the memory farm, she relives Jace's memories of the Kingdom. During the September Incident, she experiences false memories of being a September Institute student and member of House Blue World.

In the four years after the September Incident, Aria becomes the head of the Righteous Vanguard and takes the title of representative. She pilots with Righteousness in the Righteous Regent, although she does not choose a Candidate name.

Relationships

Jamil

Jamil and Aria are BFFs who feed each other fries.

Jacqui Green

Jacqui and Aria initially clash during the scramble for the Gnosis virus. They meet again when Aria tries to save her Jamil from being kidnapped by Jacqui. Aria is unsuccessful at beating her, but charms her at the last possible moment into agreeing to go on a date with her (and in the end to joining the Chime as they leave Counterweight). They start forming a more solid romantic connection during their journey to September, after Jacqui learns that Aria is the real Aria Joie and not just a cosplaying fangirl; they make the song "Love's First Explosion" together.

They are dating by the finale. Aria chooses to prioritize her life and her relationship with Jacqui over the conflict with Rigour.

Cassander

After the September Incident Aria and Cass still meet up once a month for a friendly spar in the middle of space, despite being part of factions that are often opposed.
