The September Incident was a confrontation between various factions which took place on the planet September and especially Mode City.
Events began to develop in "Another Facility Among Trees", culminating in "The Storm Over September" (COUNTER/Weight episodes 30-40). However, many of its important players were put in place due to earlier occurrences: Rigour embedded itself on September after Twelfth summoned it there using Voice;[1] the Steiger twins sent Paisley Moon and a backup fleet to September in their efforts to deal with Petrichor Automedia;[1][2] and after discussing terms with Ibex, the Chime agreed to attempt to rescue Maryland September and find a way to stop Rigour.[3]
Although the Chime succeeded in finding Maryland (who refused to leave), in the process they caused a great deal of chaos. Twelfth's forces were stirred up and nearly killed Mako and Paisley.[4][5] The Chime's continued prodding at Voice and the secrets of September piqued Rigour's interest. Rigour fully revealed itself, climbing out of the mines of Mode City in the hopes of taking control of either Voice or the ancient mech Apokine.[6] Twelfth attempted to take control of it himself, but was killed by Paisley.[7]
The combined efforts of the Chime and the Minerva Strategic fleet in orbit managed to do some damage to the Divine. But Rigour was strong enough that AuDy feared this wouldn't be enough. Liberty and Discovery, Detachment, and Voice worked together to open a one-way version of the portals Divines can make—effectively shunting Mode City and Rigour into an extradimensional prison. The cost was that AuDy, Detachment, Voice, and the residents of Mode City were trapped in there with it. The rest of the Chime barely managed to escape, bringing a few friends (Maxine, Lazer Ted, Paisley, and a number of Makos) along with them.[7]
With a chunk bitten out of it, the planet of September began to slowly fall towards its sun, while political and personal aftershocks rang out through the sector.[7]
