Following the Miracle of the Mirage, Ballad became a key officer of the Volunteers of Seiche, an anti-New Earth Hegemony militia on Gift-3. Following deals brokered by members of the Notion, the Volunteers (and, in turn, Ballad) joined with Advent Discovery and Salvage Society, The Concretetown Particulars, and others to form the Advent Group.

Ballad quickly rose up the ranks of Advent but decided to defect after having a sword fight with, and almost being killed by, their sibling, Echo, over who would rescue Grand Magnificent. He joined the Qui Err Coalition and brought the Volunteers of Seiche with him.
