Gumption is a Divine of the Divine Fleet.

Appearance and Personality[edit | edit source]

Gumption adapts junk tech, battle debris and other parts into themselves in order to change the things that they can do and also in order to not break down. They can use anything, from an old TV to another Divine's arm. Once something is detached from it, though, it is not considered to be a part of Gumption.

History and Involvement[edit | edit source]

Gumption was one of the last two Divines before its death, along with Empyrean, and formerly provided ad hoc repairs to the fleet. Gumption used the entirety of themselves to fix the city ship Gumption's Gambit, saving the ship in the process with their sacrifice.[1]

A plan Gumption had put into place prior to their death, the Salvage Mandate, developed into the Mandati faction on Quire's surface. These people rediscovered their purpose and banded together with the people of Gumption's Gambit, leading the reconstruction of the Divine and the search for his components by following the schematics in their medallions.[2]

The last piece needed to get Gumption working -- the part that enabled him to heal himself -- was found by Seneschal's Brace.[3] This led to them (thanks to the efforts of Kent Brighton) stealing the other parts of Gumption from the Divine Free States and instating Declan's Corrective as their Excerpt.[4] Unfortunately, the new Excerpt and his Divine were killed shortly thereafter by Kentucky's Corona and Castlerose.[5] The Divine Free States then retook Gumption's body. However, instead of giving him a new Excerpt, the DFS and their successor state of the Divine Principality distributed his parts among their Divines, making them effectively immortal, eternal servants.[6]
