The Golden War was fought in the Golden Branch, with the Autonomous Diaspora and the People’s Conglomerate of Orion allying against the expansion of the Empire of Apostolos, and becoming victorious in a final conflict above the planet Counterweight.

The war was begun by the Apostolosian Apokine as a war of conquest, with the Apostolosians taking advantage of the historic mistrust between their two enemies, as well as Apostolos's unique FTL system, to conquer them. As the war dragged on, however, OriCon and the Diaspora were able to form a temporary alliance and begin to turn the war in their favour. The Apostolosians responded by developing a superweapon whose existence leaked to the OriCon and Diasporan alliance, resulting in the famed final mission of the war.

The Final Mission[edit | edit source]

The final mission is said to have culminated in the sacrifice of the lives of Jace Rethal and Addax Dawn, candidate of Peace, to stop a terrible plot by the Apostolosian Empire that would have doomed not only Counterweight, but many other cities, planets, and stars. With their sacrifice, the explosion ended in the creation of the new, perfect sister planet of Weight, now cautiously inhabited by a small group from both the OriCon and the Diaspora.

The truth of the end of the war is more complicated. A joint mission including not only OriCon and the Diaspora, but also the Rapid Evening and defecting Apostolosians, came together to stop the Apostolosian Empire from deploying their two-part superweapon. While they managed to prevent the halves of the superweapon from being combined, conflict among all parties resulted in one half of the weapon being deployed over the airspace of Counterweight. The power of the weapon ecologically devastated Counterweight, creating the idyllic Weight. Jace and Addax actually both survived, although they passed out of public awareness afterwards.

After losing the war, the Apostolosian Empire began to decline (within a decade it would be overthrown by the Golden Demarchy). The Empire is forced to give up a number of planets, including Apotine, their traditional burial ground for past Apokines, which is turned into Joypark by EarthHome Entertainment. OriCon and the Diaspora remain the most powerful factions in the Golden Branch, though a handful of planets fight to stay independent.
