The Golden War was fought in the Golden Branch by the the Autonomous Diaspora and the People’s Conglomerate of Orion together against the Empire of Apostolos, eventually defeating them on the planet Counterweight.

The War

The Golden War refers to the war started by the Apostolosian Apokine against the Diaspora and OriCon in the Golden Branch Sector. It was a war of conquest, with the Apostolosians taking advantage of the historic mistrust between their two enemies, as well as Apostalos's uniquie FTL system, conquer their enemies. As the war dragged on however, OriCon and the Diaspora were able to form a temporary alliance and begin to turn the war in their favour. The Apostolosians responded with developing a superweapon, who's existence leaked to the OriCon and Diasporan alliance, resulting in the famed final mission of the war.

The Myth of the Final mission

As the story is told, at the end of the Golden War, it was a rigger pilot—Jace Rethal—and a CandidateAddax, who controlled the Divine Peace—who sacrificed themselves to stop a terrible plot by the Apostolosian Empire that would have doomed not only Counterweight, but many other cities, planets, and stars. But instead of destruction, there was life: When the light from the explosion cleared, a new celestial body hung in the sky: They called it Weight. A perfect planet, now cautiously inhabited by a small group from both the OriCon and the Diaspora.

The Final Mission

The truth of the war is more complicated, culminating in a joint mission including not only OriCon and the Diaspora, but also the Rapid Evening and defecting Apostolosians who came together to stop the Apostolosian Empire from deploying their super weapon.[1]

Key members of this mission include

The team is later joined by Ibex and the Divine Righteousness.

The Aftermath

While the team is successful, the planet Counterweight is devastated at the same time that an idyllic sister planet known as Weight is created. After losing the war, the Apostolosian Empire begins to decline and within a decade would be overthrown in a coup to and become the Golden Demarchy. The Empire is forced to five up a number of planets, including Apotine, their traditional burial ground for past Apokines, which is turned into Joypark by EarthHome Entertainment. The rest of the Golden Branch sector is occupied primarily by OriCon and the Diaspora, along with a handful of planets fighting to stay independent from the rule of the three great powers.
