The Profit's Star is a large weapon/deterrent system, designed and employed by the New Earth Hegemony (and in particular, Our Profit) against Crystal Palace.
The Profit's Star consists of a large light emitter, deployed on Our Profit's flagship, the Restitution of All Things. It generates a colossal beam of light which is focused on the distant planet of Kesh, where Crystal Palace is based, and has the effect of preventing Crystal Palace from either observing, or predicting, the actions within the Twilight Mirage.[1]
The Profit's Star was deployed one year and one month after the Miracle of the Mirage by Our Profit, after Morning's Observation killed the leader of The Church of the Self, Profit's Cadence. This had the effect of denying the forces of the New Earth Hegemony access to guns which could work within the Mirage, which they desired in their attempts to conquer and colonise the Quire System. As a backup plan (or potentially as part of the original plan), Our Profit deployed the star, in an event that was previously known as Dark Day to Crystal Palace, it's agents, and indirectly to Demani Dusk, Gray Gloaming, and The Notion.[2]
The light from Profit's Star was later used by The Notion (in particular Gig Kephart, Echo Reverie and Even Gardner) to supercharge a bullion of space plankton, which was then given to the Wandering Sea in order to allow it to escape. The beam was, at the same time, the site of a battle between The Notion (together with Kent Brighton, a representative of The Lineage Brighton), The Lineage Castlerose, the Advent Group, and the Rogue Wave, over control of the Wandering Sea.[3]
