“
I feel like you'll have a future here in a way that the people who sent you didn't plan for.”
Morning's Observation is a young operative of the New Earth Hegemony who attempted to interfere with the Mysteries before being stopped by Tender Sky. Like all NEH members, his surname is possessive.
He is a confirmed stratus and has the ability to sense danger, manipulate the Mesh, and quote, "to be in a bunch of places at once".[1]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Morning is a 19- or 20-year-old scrawny white man. Seen in the Mesh in "The Last Divine", he wore an all-black skinsuit with little white lines running down the extremities in a curved shapes and a helmet in matching black. He had a large flowing red cape attached to his suit, and wielded both a laser sword and a gun.
Outside the Mesh, he wears a jacket made of a sort of denim scalemail with loose jeans and a t-shirt. He has neck length hair with one side dyed pink and the other dyed black. He has tattoos on his face and the side of his neck.[2] While working at The Brink, he wears a apron on top of his usual outfit.
Austin has said that Morning's Observation was directly inspired by the rapper Lil Peep (who sported a similar pink-and-black hairstyle).[3]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Morning's Observation starts out as a snotty nerd, grieving the life he had on Earth. He's naturally rebellious while still hoping to find a place to call home. He's very creative, coming up with new artistic endeavors including real time light-shows and the ground-breaking Calciyummm. While Morning can be impassioned, he isn't one to get into serious fights. At heart, he's concerned about those around him.
History and Involvement[edit | edit source]
Morning's Observation was originally part of the New Earth Hegemony and was sent to the Mirage as part of a sleep detachment unit. He worked alongside members of his unit to kill Gumption, but was captured by Tender Sky and brought back to the Beloved's headquarters. As he adjusted to the Mirage, he started to help Cascara with missions. He joins the team to rescue the Cadent from Sui Juris, providing technical expertise.
After the miracle, he worked at the Brink as a chef, specializing in breakfast sandwiches. When the Notion needed a member of the NEH to vouch for them, he agrees to join their plan, presenting the galaxy-shattering invention of Calicyummm.

During that mission, he kills Saint Symmetry and Profit's Cadence in order to save Grand Magnificent. Upset by his actions, he keeps a low profile until the end of the season. He appears later to invite himself to the Feast of Patina. Morning also allows Grand to use his plans for the mind-blowing Caliyummm to funnel Advent's money away from harmful goals.

(This feature on him is a really great primer, if you're interested, and that closing photo with the blue-sequined jacket is choice.) Peep also the direct inspiration for a character you've seen a little of already, and that you'll see more of very shortly.'
