Henrietta Sameday is the meddlesome problem child of the wealthy Samedays.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Henrietta is still wearing the fall collection, but wearing it well. Her temperment is capricious. She is facecast as a Swiss mountain town version of Cher from Clueless, or Romola Garai in the BBC’s Emma.
History[edit | edit source]
Family[edit | edit source]
The Samedays made their fortune thanks to a cheap and easy to produce bridle design, which they did not invent but purchased from a farmer. As newcomers to society they lack the credibility of inherited titles. This is not helped by Henrietta’s constant meddling, a pursuit her parents wish she would give up and settle into marriage.
Despite their hopes for their daughter, they have tempered their expectations over the years, particularly regarding her role in the family business. Uninterested in the tiresome minutia of financial matters, Henrietta will never take on more than a detached oversight role in the Sameday business. Her desire during the holiday season is instead to be forgiven by her former friend, Diego.
Reputation[edit | edit source]
Henrietta’s reputation begins as clever but vulgar and with unfortunate connections. The latter due to a cousin, Albrecht Sameday, who stole a monument and absconded. During the events of Good Society, she suffers a fracture with her mentor, Anastasia, who sees her attempts at meddling as purposeless and short sighted. Their bond is eventually mended, and Henrietta becomes known as a master of gossip, thanks to her centrality in Nievelmarch’s most exciting occurances.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Diego Flint is Henrietta’s former friend, who has never forgiven her for allowing her brother, his fiance, to make the journey into the mountains from which he never returned.
Chatelaine Pellier is publically known as Henrietta’s friend, but the two are secretly old flames.
Anastasia is Henrietta’s governness and mentor in meddling.
Honor Sameday is Henrietta’s brother, and Diego’s fiance, who disappeared on an expedition in the Marchmont Mountains.
Albrecht Sameday is Henrietta’s fugitive cousin who famously stole the Monument of Flowers before fleeing Nievelmarch.
