Chet Wise is first seen as a fixer/sheriff on Sage; he has only known Sage since its abandonment by the Diaspora. He is a "haggard old guy" with thinning hair,[1] but wears body armor and has plenty of weapons to deal with the harsh conditions of the planet.

He was a pilot and part of the Kingdom during the Golden War.

After Kobus's retirement, Chet becomes Loyalty's candidate, Capra. He is unusually old for the job, and appointed partially as an apology to the people of Sage for their bad treatment. As such, he doesn't feel that he owes Loyalty anything, and considers it "[just] a gun".[2] He attends the gala with Vicuna in "A Splintered Branch, A Ringing Bell Pt. 1", and dies inside Loyalty while fighting Rigour in "A Splintered Branch, A Ringing Bell Pt. 3".
