Loyalty

From fattwiki

Loyalty is a Divine who is loyal to Grace but also being manipulated by Voice toward the ends of the September Institute and Righteousness. It has difficulty acting alone.

Loyalty is humanoid in shape. Within its womblike cockpit, it surrounds its Candidate with cords and a headset. Unlike other Divines, it doesn't directly jack in to its Candidate in any way, giving an impression of an almost unsettlingly "pristine" relationship.[1] However, it has also been described as a "codependent" "surrogate parent" in regard to Kobus. Kobus even sleeps inside it.[2]

In "This Month of Ours", Loyalty and Kobus direct Lux Vox in mercenary action against the Diasporatic Department of Material Resources: Slate Division and Service on Slate, while at the same time both moving between star systems and having a conversation with Voice. During Ibex and Vicuna's parley on Sigilia, during which Kobus mediates, Loyalty kneels next to Grace like a knight and the two Divines pass messages to each other.[1]

After the September Incident, Kobus makes the unheard-of move to resign their Candidacy. Loyalty takes on Capra as their new Candidate but remains a servant of Grace. After Grace is destroyed by Kobus and Capra dies fighting Rigour, Loyalty "realizes that it serves the people of the Diaspora, it’s always served them. And thinking it served anyone else was a mistake."

Loyalty is one of the deceased or resting Divines depicted on the mosaics of the Mosaic Gyratory in Chimera's Lantern. In the iconography, it resembles arms, walls or a womb enveloping a group of people. Close examination reveals it has a humanoid face and is in a posture of rest. Thisbe recalls that Loyalty was part of the Divine Principality when she worked for Space, but is not any longer.[3] Loyalty's gravesite inside Chimera's Lantern is called the Chamber of Loyalty.[4]
