Nolan Pearson is a 10 year old boy from Bluffington Beach. He is popular in his age group due to his friendship with older kids outside of school and for his especially large, but not too large, rare marble. This marble is blue, with an ornate inner design similar to a cat’s eye but different enough that it is not one that Nolan or his classmates has ever seen before. He is not the kind of popular kid that plays sports.

Nolan attends Bluffington Beach Middle School. He is often in trouble in school due to constantly being late for class and band practise, and for his various schemes. One such scheme that was the cause of him being grounded "until further notice" as that he set up a rival school store selling, among other items, pencils, pens, books, candy, juice boxes, sticky hands, eraser tops. Nolan got the idea to start this "store" after the school banned sticky hands and Nolan saw a demand in the schoolyard market.

He knows his way around the neighborhood and enjoys spending time outside and is "a tough kid to give a bedtime to". He considers himself to be “the best hider in the fifth grade”.

Nolan will try to make any sound but he is “too young to make any sound”. He would describe himself as a "movie buff", although it is unclear if that is true.

When playing Smash 0 with Frank, Ronny, and CC, his main is Waddle Dee.

At night, he often dreams with a tone of humorous acceptance (“well I guess this is happening!”) no matter the bizarre nature of the dream.

He and his mother have a positive relationship, despite his frequent grounding. She and Nolan say "spaghetti's ready" when dinner is ready (no matter what food they're actually having), as an inside joke/reference to a show they watched together when Nolan was younger.

When investigating the Tunnel in Part 4 of To Be Young Near the Shore, he uses a hand-crank operated flashlight. He uses a pay-as-you-go slider phone.

He is described as being the kind of ten year old that "always wears polo shirts" with the top two buttons unbuttoned.
