Elouise Salt is a young woman who worked at Father's Candy Shope on Kingfish Pier in Bluff City in 1899. She dislikes when people ask if her surname is related to the candy they sell (it is). Her father also taught her how to fish, and she is familiar with fishing equipment.
She is described as being a nerd in the "try hard" sense, as she feels a great deal of pressure from both her family to be the best daughter she can be and from her white teachers and other authority figures. Although her family is close they do not often get to go out together as a group, due to the racism of the era towards her black mother.
Their family motto is "your word is the number one thing you can give someone so make sure to be honest in all circumstances especially those that would benefit you if you had lied and keep in mind that if you do lie that you're a bad person" (in Latin, though Elouise doesn't know Latin).
She is described as being a light-skinned black woman (although explicitly not light-skinned enough to "pass"), with curly hair that she keeps under a "classic I'm-working-with-food" kerchief and big freckled cheeks. When seen in America's Playground, she is wearing a white blouse and a deep blue skirt with small while polka dots on it.
