Ariadne is an Apostolosian on the Callisto under the command of Sokrates. Their innocuous outgoing message to another Apostolosian on the other side of the war results in the Callisto crew being cast as traitors to the Kingdom by Ibex. Sokrates keeps them from being executed.
In "A Special Kind of Warmth" they have become an activist and agitator for the Demarchy. Law enforcement on Gemm attempt to quash their speech and the ensuing riot, but Gerenuk and Fortitude respond halfheartedly, resulting in a win for the Demarchy.

The Apostolosian gender and pronoun system was invented and elaborated as play continued, and because of this after-the-fact retcon, Apostolosian characters during COUNTER/Weight are often referred to with binary pronouns. In later seasons, Apostolosians are more consistently referred to with "they" pronouns (unless they specifically choose to use others), and it has become standard practice both by cast and fandom to apply these pronouns to COUNTER/Weight-era Apostolosians as well, even if those pronouns weren't consistently used at time of production.
