The Onion Order, also known as Peeling the Onion, is a non-standard listening order for Friends at the Table. It conceives of each season of the show as a layer of an onion, and asks listeners to go through as though they were cutting an onion - i.e. by moving on from a season after only having listened to half of it, and then going back to finish the back halves in reverse order.
Classic Onion Order[edit | edit source]
As Friends at the Table is an ongoing series, any listening order will become outdated over time. In its original form, Peeling the Onion only covers the seasons released before PARTIZAN. This order is as follows:
- Start at Twilight Mirage 00 and listen up to 27, the end of the Miracle when the PCs will all be apart for a year
- To really experience that time passing go back and start COUNTER/Weight and listen up through the end of the kingdom game where the Hieron anime is first mentioned (Ep. 21)
- Start Autumn in Hieron and listen up through Winter in Hieron 26 and when Austin says "if you haven't listened to Marielda, which was like your micro season between COUNTER/Weight and Winter in Hieron, now is the time to do that"...
- Listen to Marielda
- Finish Winter in Hieron, listen to Spring in Hieron
- Finish COUNTER/Weight
- Finally go back and finish Twilight Mirage. You'll start with the This Year of Ours episodes and get a nice run down of where everyone's at!

In 2021, an Onion Order listen was organized through tumblr and discord. It began in January 2021 and ran through to December of that same year[1]. Although the tumblr was only active until April 2021, the discord remained in use and eventually pivoted to a Partizan/Bluff City parallel listen[2].
