A panther is a magic creature native to Nacre which can change its form from that of a large black bird into a flock of tiny black birds and vice versa. Fero gained the ability to transform into one after spending time observing it in the city's zoo. It is unrelated to the real-life cat known as a panther, because Hieron is a fantasy world where words don't have to mean the same things they do here.
