The machine which directs the Rapid Evening from the planet of Kesh is referred to as Crystal Palace[note 1].

Various exhibitions of technology and art were held within as a demonstration of the wealth and power of the British Empire. Crystal Palace became a symbol of progress, harmony and modernity until its destruction by fire in 1936.
