The Ordennan Dissent is a faction of objectors to the Ordennan Impetus, comprising nearly one third of the Ordennan war machine at the time of its formation. They are led by Jerod Shiraz, who brings them to the Last University in the months immediately after the finale of Winter in Hieron.

The Dissent was founded by Jerod, Stornras Glasseye and Sunder Havelton. Study of the broken Blade in the Dark seems to have been the spark that brought them together: Stornras and Sunder took the blade to Jerod after it was given to them by Samol. However, when Fela Malle found out about their revolt and attacked, they were split up. Jerod took her forces to the University without knowing what became of the blade or her compatriots. In "Why Are You Here?", four years afterward, Sunder and Stornras finally arrive at the University with the Blade in the Dark.
