Mustard Red

From fattwiki

Through some casual online shopping and investigation of some "disappearances" on the Brink for a brief time that ended up being sort of overblown - it was completely normal, and consensual, by the way - you know, [she] just sort of got a promotion and kept following her passion.

She is totally not the Excerpt of the Divine, Arbitrage.[Note 1]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Mustard is a cyborg with an augmented frame; she has freckles and wears colorful hair clips. A cited reference for her personality and general vibe is the comic weird girl x weird girl by ggbbggbbbb.

Personality[edit | edit source]

She takes her duties in Brink Proxy very seriously, monitoring the activities of people across the station to the degree that some might call her a "stalker hacker creep".[1] In its records, Arbitrage describes Mustard as follows:

A little paranoid, but perfectly tuned for a role in surveillance. Oh, and quite eager. A useful trait.[2]

During the course of her Brink Proxy duties, Mustard investigates the Devotees and tries to seek out a copy of an old magazine that has a centerfold that kills people who look at it. She insists she wants the magazine not for the centerfold, but because it contains an interview with Grand Magnificent and Morning's Observation that is of historical interest.[3] Ultimately, Mustard gets the magazine from the Divine, Arbitrage. All it wants in return is for her to make an account on its app.[4]

As she investigates the Devotees, Mustard experiences her pulse syncing with Devotion for the first time and finds herself increasingly drawn into the cult. The Devotees are easily able to trick her into divulging secret information about the Brink by getting her excited to talk about her passion. She becomes a bridge between the Divines Arbitrage and Devotion.

The Divine, Arbitrage gives Mustard tips that lend her an apparently uncanny ability to give the right answers and put people in the right places. As a result, she is able to rise from mid-level bureaucrat on the Brink to general secretary of the Cause's command in just a few years. She's not in Violet Cove, but is connected to the Devotees.

In the case of a tie during Cause votes, Mustard's vote can act as the tiebreaker. Her swing vote keeps the Blue Channel in the dark about their use as bait to draw the Authority's attention away from Carhaix.[Note 2][5]

During the stellar combustor mission, Mustard offers Brnine, Phrygian and Routine a contract giving them the blueprints to the sun station if they agree to use the combustor as a bargaining chip against the Authority (which they refuse). This is a "new type of contract" that is impossible to break after signing. She has signed a contract herself that keeps her from connecting them to the Authority without them signing. According to Austin, these contracts have already been offered to some low level, front lines members of the Cause.

If Mustard is the Separatist Alliance, then the Divine, Arbitrage is her Palpatine. She's like Arbitrage's Excerpt, but is not officially one because Arbitrage finds that terminology outdated.
