The Usher of Truth is an Iconoclast present on Palisade. She was trapped in Q-concrete by the Rapid Evening for 5000 years and removed by the Bilats, who sought to position her as the fabled Constantina Malady. She has the ability to affect people's dreams, or their memories of their dreams.[1]
She resembled Adjoa Andoh when posing as "Gem", then a glass noble when taking the form of Constantina Malady,[2] and when both these disguises were broken she took on a tendriled, melting body made of paint.[1]
She was referred to by the codename "Gem" during Operation Midnight Lapidary, a mission given to the crew of the Blue Channel by Gucci Garantine in PALISADE's Canvas of Dreams arc. Reported to be a major dealer in precious metals and stones from Stel Orion, "Gem" came to Palisade to attend the coronation of the returned Duchess Constantina Malady.[3] While the rest of the crew was ordered to keep "Gem" away from the coronation, the Figure in Bismuth was instructed by the Witch in Glass to capture her. Although her true identity was revealed, the Figure succeeded in convincing his crewmates, and so the Usher of Truth was once again imprisoned. This time she was placed in a Q-concrete sarcophagus which the crew pushed into the sea to be picked up by the Witch.[1]
