Elle Evensong is a Devotee soldier, a BIS spy in Violet Cove, and Coriolis Sunset's rival.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Elle has long, wavy lilac hair, light brown skin, and a scar across their throat taken during early combat on Palisade. Their funeral outfit is a dark purple tuxedo.[1]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Elle is "a cunning combatant and clever commander."[2] Her drink of choice is a really strong whiskey sour.[3]

She aims to ensure that her "true master" wins in the conflict on Palisade, and she wants to shake Cori's faith in Devotion, who she describes as a dead god. She has a fairly nihilistic outlook and is satisfied with "getting what's [hers]" without believing in anything more.[1]

Their true master is Arbitrage.[4]

History and Involvement[edit | edit source]

She is around two to five years older than Coriolis and was among the first wave of Devotees to arrive on Palisade. She quickly made a name for herself as a commander and became a versatile poster child: for people from the Twilight Mirage she represented their support on Palisade, and for the Dim Liturgy she represented "a prophesied bridge between the past and the future."[2] However, she went missing after being seriously wounded as the war started up in earnest.

This is when they began working as a double agent for the Divine, Arbitrage.[2]

When Coriolis Sunset accidentally kills her father, Griesel Sunset, Elle protects and tries to reassure her. Cori blames his death on Elle.

Their name appears on spies.txt, the list of BIS spies generated by Asepsis. As a courtesy to Elle for having fought alongside the crew of the Blue Channel, Thisbe politely asks if they would let the Blue Channel detain them rather than apprehending them outright. Elle agrees on the condition that she is not put in restraints in public, but she seems strangely comfortable with being brought on board the ship,[5] and she is not in custody for long: Mustard Red vouches for her status as a double agent and orders her release.[1]

Elle leads a Violet Cove squad to support Jade Kill and Grey Pond during Crusade's attack on Cause supply lines, personally saving Jesset City's life in the process.[6]

They are among those who attempt to retrieve the train brain in "Seize the Chance", where they face off against Cori. When caught in Dust's effect, Elle dreams that she is "who [she] used to be" and that "all of the Devotion stuff" is real.[7] When the dust clears and Cori prevents further violence, Elle simply leaves.

After Arbitrage leaves Palisade and a Mirage bomb expands the Twilight Mirage to encompass the Palisade system,[8] Elle remains committed to Arbitrage's vision of the future...for a time. Cori invites her to a rendezvous and convinces her to change allegiances. They kiss, and Elle gives Cori a Boon: a one-way ticket out of the Mirage.[3]

Mech[edit | edit source]

Elle pilots the Cataphract, which gains power by drawing on the blood of others.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Coriolis Sunset[edit | edit source]

Cori once looked up to Elle, and Elle looked out for her when they were younger. After the events of "Upon Our Grace Pt. 4" they are rivals. Elle gains a point of Leverage over Cori every time they shake her faith in Devotion.[1]

Surprised and impressed that Cori prevented Elle from killing her in their last face-off, Elle becomes more flirtatious when they meet at the Bontive Valley barbecue and offers Cori the chance to work with her directly. Cori turns her down, sort of.[7]
