Patina is the 300th Divine of the Divine Fleet, and is known for having built themselves.

History and Involvement[edit | edit source]

Before the Divine Fleet had 300 Divines, it had 299, and over many generations debated among themselves how to achieve the round number of 300. Some argued it should be built by human hands in honor of the promise of the Resonant Orbit, while others argued that it should be created by Synthetics, who had recently had their rights upheld in the Fleet. Others still thought it should be built by the Divines themselves to reflect the soul of the Divine Fleet.

At some point it was discovered that the 300th Divine already existed, and had simply built itself from old technology and the many interactions that the people of the fleet had with it. The Divine Fleet dubbed it as the Divine Patina.

While the exact details of Patina’s creation are never shared, the Cadent describes it as follows;

And as is the way of these things, our minds were made up for us well before we were ready. The three-hundredth Divine had been there all along with us, slowly building since the day of the very first Divines. Slowly building from the algorithmic detritus and scrap parts of machines long made obsolete. Slowly building their body from old signage once slapped by the hands of human children leaping for good luck. Slowly building their engine in the abandoned prototypes discarded by the most ambitious robotic craftworkers. Slowly building their mind from the endless stream of Divine revisions of our Assemblage. They were Patina, and they were with us always, an amalgamation of everything that made the Fleet the Fleet, and they were our three-hundredth. ^[1]

The Feast of Patina[edit | edit source]

The Feast of Patina is a holiday in the Divine Fleet that is celebrated once a year. It takes the form of a large meal, where each person invites someone they know, and that person invites someone they know, and so on until you have as close to 300 guests as possible. The spirit of the feats is to celebrate the many connections that we have to other people, intentional or coincidental. Due to the size and nature of the meal, it is commonly done potluck-style where people will bring their own dishes to share.
