Jake the Jackal is a veteran wrestler with Promenade Wrestling and Chief of Operations at Graysand Paranormal. He is 6 feet 10 inches tall and looks like Magic Mike XXL-era Kevin Nash.

While investigating, his style runs towards track pants, a tank top he’s owned for a few years, and a big trenchcoat that goes to his knees (all of which is his old merch from his previous wrestling days).

Wrestling Career

THE RETURN OF JAKE THE JACKAL! YES, HE’S BACK IN TOWN AND HE’S HERE TO SHOW THOSE MONSTERS THE ONLY THING THEY FEAR:

THEIR OWN GRAVE!

During his early days in wrestling he had a pilot gimmick (where his finishing move was The Airplane Spin) which people didn’t buy as he was “too tall” to believably be a pilot. He moved on to a much more successful run as Jake The Jackal, which had an ancient Egyptian/Anubis gimmick where he became the mid-atlantic champion. He initially retired after a “dust up” with a wrestling promoter, moving into a career as a paranormal investigator.

In the aftermath of the selkie investigation (The Cost of Greed), Jake read the wrong book and heard the voice of a death god calling him to put his body on the line and return to wrestling.

When returning to wrestling, he chose to move away from his previous Anubis gimmick to incorporate his paranormal career by using a ghost hunter/John Constantine-style vibe (with his signature move now being The Exorcism), although much of his merchandise still used the jackal motif and he retained his previous finisher (The Weight Of The Heart, an inverted pendulum backbreaker).

To emphasize his change in gimmick, his entrance leans into the ghost hunter aesthetics, with the lights in the arena going dim as a heartbeat sound plays, and then green light accompanied by “rock music that’s garbage” by a local band as he enters with an “old school wrestling swagger”. A low camera angle is used to make him look tall and big to the audience at home. As well as this, his in-ring attire consists of biker/punk jeans, a singlet top, and a brown Constantine-style trenchcoat with a big jackal silhouette on the back.

Career as a Paranormal investigator

He joined Graysand Paranormal in the early days of its operation, working most notably on the investigation into the Jersey Devil. While his role as Chief of Operations mainly includes keeping track of stationary, he also goes out into the field, where he has a knack for convincing people to share information during an investigation.

Although he has returned to wrestling, he continues his work with Graysand Paranormal and is on friendly terms with the other staff there, especially Alexa, including taking part in work potlucks (he brings wings, of his own recipe).

Moves as The Veteran/The Grapplers Down at Promenade Arena

Finishing Move

When you’re booked to win a match, roll 2d6: On a 10+, you hit your Finisher clean. Choose whether you or your opponent gains +1 Audience. On a 7-9, they make you work for it. Choose: you use your veteran skills to force a win, and gain +1 Heat with them; or you let them look strong in defeat, and they gain +1 Audience. On a botch, you win by countout, disqualification or interference (Creative’s choice), and you lose -1 Audience.

Veteran Instincts

+1 Momentum when you start a match.

Put Over

When you show vulnerability to an opponent in the ring in order to make them look good, roll +Work. On a 10+, you both gain +1 Audience. On a 7-9, one of you gains +1 Audience and the other loses -1 Audience, your opponents choice. On a botch, you lose -1 Audience and your opponent resents you for your pandering.
