Captain Sciron was the captain of the Holiday Gambit. Iota Pretense is descended from him, as he married into the Qui Err royal family generations ago.

Echo first sees him depicted as a very stylized statue, where he has laurels in his hair, a scaled face, and wears an eyepatch and a cloak. When the grass snake shows him to Echo again, he is indeed wearing the eyepatch, which is revealed to be cybernetic, but has it flipped up.

He left a message on his ship which recounted how he and his crew of mercenaries stole the Gnosis Virus and crash landed on Quire after fifteen years trying to keep the virus away from interested parties. His motto was originally "no Apokine, no Demarch, only gold", which eventually became "no Apokine, no Demarch, only us".
